Paul Barnes, Producer and Editor, Florentine Films
I have been a producer and editor for Ken Burn’s Florentine Films for over 30 years. I have known Mark Gordon for 6 years and was an editing consultant and consulting producer on his first feature documentary, Awakening In Taos, which has been syndicated nationally over PBS.
He emerged with a very exciting, compelling and award-winning first feature documentary. I was honored to attend a sold-out premiere at Santa Fe’s Lensic Performing Arts Center, followed by equally successful, and sold out, screenings at the Kimo Theater in Albuquerque and the Taos Arts Center. He even got a NEA grant to hold screenings for handicapped, student and underserved audiences throughout the State of New Mexico. For television broadcast, Mark succeeded in getting Awakening in Taos picked up by 93 PBS stations in major markets throughout the United States.
Mark’s new project is Man of Many Colors, a documentary about a member of the Taos Pueblo, Blue Spruce Standing Deer, trying to regain his Native American identity after being coerced into white assimilation and yearning to return to his roots as a native singer and medicine man.
